Movement against second slavery
Nigeria is dysfunctional because of the inability of the people to take personal responsibility over their lives. We mostly look for saviours when power resides with us. We look for the veneration of the west and foreigners. We do not believe in our own success stories. Corruption has never been the issue. What the issue in Nigeria is involves growing the economy , creating an industrial base, setting up federal protected grazing lands for Fulani herdsmen to resolve clashes with sedentary farmers and creating a country where people like the infamous OBJ will never be condescending in speech or deed to those they feel are minorities. In spite of the problems we have in Nigeria some people have built industrial bases in the east. Spare part sellers have moved to now making their products here in the country. We had years to encourage the Nnewi industrial base but we didn't. We could have improved agriculture and brought down the price of food but we didn't. Instead we have a society where most people rush to the service industries not realising the lack of industry will hurt us long term. It is ok to moan about bad situations but what did we do to survive the situation and make the best out of it? We have never told ourselves the truth. The things we fear about each other . What we whisper in boardrooms and beer parlours. This current attempt by the elite to align with reactionary forces will fail. If not now then in the near future because the indomitable spirit of our ancestors will never allow. As for those who point to the example of America I suggest they read history and realise the horrors on which that country is built. Would you be happy to build a Nigeria on the blood of second and third class citizens? To allow criminals to select an alternative and window dress their plans by using technocrats and professionals is the second slavery Fela Kuti was talking about. . It is instructive to note that most of the intellectual class are right wing apologists who have no idea of real class struggle and the need to drag millions out of poverty by using mass education and creating the environment where people can create jobs and grow organically. As usual it is the same old story of Pot calling Kettle black.
